Proposing marriage to your soul mate is hopefully a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Those four words – will you marry me – are forever life altering. So, how will you say it? Where will you be when you say it? What will you be doing? Finding the most perfect way to propose can be overwhelming. Whether you’re a simple person, or you like things “over the top,” here are some ideas to be sure that the answer is YES. Take a look at these super cool and unique ways that others have proposed.
- Proposal Movie Trailer: Matt, a super romantic boyfriend, creates his own movie trailer and had a local movie theater play it while his girlfriend sat in the audience with her family. Super creative, and sweet.
- Harry Potter Proposal: This guy spent 5 months preparing the perfect proposal that revolved around a scavenger hunt inside a Harry Potter book that he created. He even cut a hole inside the book to create a secret compartment that held the ring.
- Photo Booth Proposal: Find a photo booth in a mall, carnival, arcade, etc. Take the first photo normally, then take out the wedding ring.
- Beyoncé Flash Mob Proposal: Tim asked his partner to marry him with a flash mob in San Francisco singing one of his favorite Beyoncé songs “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it).” You can never have enough Beyoncé – can you?
- Illustrated Book Proposal: This boyfriends illustrated a children’s book highlighting the couple’s relationship and proposing on the last pages. The main characters in the book were himself and his girlfriends as a gorilla and a giraffe. Super sweet, and also a great first book for their children.
- Aquarium Proposal: This super creative boyfriend payed divers at an aquarium to put on a proposal show inside their biggest fish tank.Holding up a handwritten sign that read – will you marry me? Now that’s FINtastic!
- YouTube Proposal: He uploaded his proposal on a YouTube video and told his girlfriend that he had a funny clip for her to watch. She probably thought it was just another cat video. When the video was over he was down on one knee presenting her with the ring.
- Furry Proposal: Just an idea – buy a cute puppy or kitten and attach a sign to them. Who can say no to that? There are many ways that you can incorporate your furry friends into a proposal.

- 148 Day Proposal: This super creative boyfriend took a secret photo everyday holding a note that read “will you marry me?” with his girlfriend somewhere in the photo. He did this every day for 6 months until finally asking her on Christmas day while showing her the photos on his laptop then getting down on one knee with the ring. How creative and thoughtful.
- Finish Line Proposal: After training for months and running the Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon together, this boyfriend stopped abruptly just a few feet before the finish line, turned and faced his girlfriend with those 4 magical words – will you marry me?
However you ask them to marry you, it’s sure to stay in your mind forever. Some propose in an over-the-top fashion, while many take a more subtle, private route. No matter what – the fact that you are making the biggest commitment of all commitment is a story you’ll share for a lieftime.
